Essence of Parkour

First of all, I like to bring out the fact that Parkour is not is not some stupid, aimless, daredevil, street stunt B.S. It is indeed a philosophy and cannot be compared to skating or any other extreme sport. Now that i got that of my chest lets continue:

Many believe that Parkour can only be truly understood and defined by its practitioners. My opinion is that this is true based on the fact that Parkour is at first a philosophy, it may not be understood as a full discipline. However, it is more of an idea or a mind frame which enhances both your mental and physical ability.

I relate to this being a sort of psychological trance. From my personal experience even though I may not be the most skilled Tracuer, there is a very strong confidence and self-assurance that overcomes you, Thus stripping you away from your fears, pains, and insecurities.

Of course, like any other skill it cannot be mastered over night and in which you will not obtain both the mental, and physical benefits of this art form. When challenging yourself in Parkour both mentally and physically, it becomes easier to deal with problems and obstacles in everyday life. When a difficult situation comes up in daily life, a Parkour practitioner can see this as any other obstacle which they've learned to overcome "fast and efficiently" do to their vigorous practice.

One of the many but sometimes unnoticed physical benefit of Parkour would be increased "Spacial Awareness". The possibilities of Parkour is limitless. The more you train the more your are not only aware of your capabilities, but your environment. You are constantly observing your surroundings analyzing every building, wall, rail, staircase, park and etc. This ability allows you to self-consciously navigate yourself through your environment almost effortlessly.

So i hope I've gave you a better clearer understanding of what Parkour is, remember what I gave you was just one aspect of the philosophy or the idea of Parkour and they're a few others which are still being produced by its skilled practitioners. So to all you fearless Tracuers or Path Seekers i urge you to keep this quote in mind.
"If at first you don't succed, your jumping about average"

How to roll, the RIGHT way (The key to Parkour Success)

First off- Start off on the balls of you feet as if you were doing a normal landing. The key is to extend your back forward allowing you to break off the hard impact from the jump, while still giving you the momentum to get back on you feet.

Secondly, you want still keep your knees bent at a 90 degree angle and as you slightly move your back forward your right or left arm(depending if rolling righty or lefty) should be the first to make contact with the ground. Then as soon as your right or left shoulder makes contact with the ground that's when you go into the roll ACROSS YOUR BACK, rolling on you spine will cause great damage.

Thirdly, At this point you’re upside down, and preparing to land back on your feet. Both feet should be tucked up; your left leg will be tucked behind your right, so that your left foot is roughly behind your right knee. Keep your knees bent as you come up to your feet, keeping your weight low, push explosively off your right foot, maintaining your momentum from the roll, and thrusting yourself into the direction you wish to carry on.

Although the roll is considered a basic move it can get a little complicated whether knowing when or where to roll, in some cases it might take as long as a few months to truly master rolling. But in the end the roll is 100% EFFECTIVE when jumping off of high obstacles and can save your life on day who knows?

Training/Warming up

To become Successful at Parkour not only must your practice and train frequently but also the correct way. There are too many time people "mainly Amateurs" practicing as much as they can but somehow continue doing improper exercises and most importantly not warming up. Parkour at times can get very vigorous depending on your capabilities and without your muscles being properly worked out it can lead to serious injury so before even doing simple techniques warm up your body correctly.

Step 1- Start off with a soft jog from 2-5 minutes, this with waken up your muscles and keep the heart going just a little bit.
Step 2- Immediately after jump into some static stretches to relieve the tense joints and muscles listed above. After that consider Dynamic Stretching and Plyometic exercises such as Lunges, Jump squats, and etc. just to ready yourself for hard impact landings.
Step 3- Actually begin doing Parkour on a low level such as doing small vaults, wall hops, and Jumps for a certain amount of time then eventually progress slowly into your full potential.

ALWAYS PROPERLY WARM UP BEFORE!!!
